University of Michigan Institute for the Humanities Lecture
It was a true honor to speak in Ann Arbor at my Alma Mater, the University of Michigan. My talk, Worlds Within: The Intersection of Humanities, Medicine and the Arts, held at the Institute for the Humanities, yielded an engaging discussion with enlightening questions from the undergraduate students and audience members. Thank you to the Director, Dr. Young and to Dr. Howell for moderating, and to my former French professor Dr. Hoffmann for the support. Thank you to Sibani Ram for the inspiration for this event. The day was made all the more special as my twin brother and my parents were in the audience. I’ll always remember this day. Hello!
I wanted to share a bit of the history of Exiles of a Gilded Moon with you. It began as an idea during my teenage years, and transformed into an epic series. One day, we were asked to create an abstract painting. I chose to paint an alien sky dominated by a ringed planet and its multiple orbiting moons, from the perspective of a viewer looking up at the sky. At that moment, I wondered what kind of story could I create based upon such an usual scene. Over the years I wrote and imagined, what a civilization depicted in this painting might look like. Recently, I asked my family if they could locate that painting. Here is my original painting after all these years…
